Why AS Colour
Fit, fabric and finish
AS Colour describes its approach around three things: fit, fabric and finish. It's a useful way of understanding a range that can otherwise look like a lot of similar tees, hoodies and basics.
Fit
There isn't one AS Colour fit.
Across the range you'll find regular everyday styles, relaxed fits, oversized garments and dedicated women's cuts. Two tees can have similar specifications on paper but look completely different once they're being worn.
It gives us plenty of room to choose a garment around what you're actually making, whether that's merchandise, event apparel or an ongoing uniform.
Fabric
The range covers everything from lighter everyday cotton through to heavyweight tees, fleece, performance fabrics and outerwear.
Fabric weight and construction have a big effect on how a garment feels, wears and takes decoration. A lighter tee might make sense for an event or everyday uniform, while a heavier cotton can give merchandise a completely different feel.
There isn't really a best fabric or GSM. It depends on what you're making.
Finish
This is where both the smaller details and the decoration come together.
Across AS Colour you'll find clean everyday staples alongside faded, washed and more textured finishes. Many of the cotton tees, hoodies and crews also give us a smooth, consistent surface to work with when printing.
Embroidery works well across polos, shirts, jackets, caps, hoodies and crews where a cleaner or more understated finish is wanted.
The fabric, construction, artwork and quantity all play a part in how we decorate it, so we'll recommend what makes sense for the garment rather than treating every product the same way.
The Fabrics
What actually changes between them?
AS Colour has a pretty large fabric range. You don't need to know all of it, but understanding the main differences can make choosing between two similar garments a lot easier.
Combed Cotton
The smooth cotton used across a lot of the core AS Colour range.
The shorter fibres are removed before the yarn is spun, leaving a cleaner and more even fabric. For us, that gives us a nice surface to print onto. For the person wearing it, it generally creates a smoother feel.
You'll find different weights of combed cotton across the range, so the same basic fabric can still produce very different garments.
Carded Cotton
Carded cotton keeps more of the shorter fibres, giving it a little more texture than combed cotton.
That gives the fabric a different character and works particularly well when you're looking for something heavier, more structured or a little more vintage in its finish.
Cotton Fleece
The fabric you'll come across through a lot of AS Colour hoodies and crews.
Weight, cotton content and construction vary between styles, which is why two fairly similar-looking hoodies can feel quite different once you actually put them on.
It's a good example of why we wouldn't choose a garment based on GSM alone.
Cotton / Polyester
Cotton and polyester are often blended where the garment needs additional stability, strength or shape retention.
You'll see blends across sweats, marle colours and other garments where the properties of both fibres are useful.
Performance Fabrics
Polyester and other synthetic fabrics make more sense when moisture management, drying time, weight or weather resistance are important.
They're used across the more active and technical parts of the AS Colour range and need to be considered a little differently when it comes to decoration.
Wovens & Outerwear
Once you move into shirts, pants and jackets, you'll start seeing fabrics such as Oxford, canvas, drill, rip-stop and recycled synthetics.
At this end of the range, we'd normally choose the garment around what it needs to do first, then work out the best way to brand it.
Colours
More than the usual
One of the things that makes the AS Colour range useful is the amount of choice once you move past standard uniform colours. Alongside Black, White, Navy and Grey, there are natural tones, earthy colours, faded shades, brighter colours and seasonal options.
For merchandise in particular, that gives us much more room to make the garment colour part of the design rather than simply the background for it. It also means the same garment can often be used across different teams, designs or merchandise drops without everything looking the same.

Swatches are approximate and a screen is not a garment. If the colour needs to be right, we’d always recommend getting a physical sample in your hands before committing to a large run.
AS Colour for Merchandise & Uniforms
More room to make it your own
AS Colour gives us a lot to work with across both merchandise and uniforms because the fit, weight, colour and feel of the garment can all be part of the finished result.
For merchandise, that might mean moving from an everyday tee into something heavier, choosing a more relaxed fit, using a faded finish or picking a garment colour that becomes part of the design itself. It's why you'll see AS Colour used across artist merchandise, events, brands and apparel collections.
For uniforms, the same range gives us a different kind of flexibility. Tees, polos, shirts, hoodies, crews and jackets can be combined into a consistent uniform without everything needing to look traditionally corporate. It works particularly well for hospitality, retail, events, creative businesses and more casual workplaces.
If it's an ongoing uniform, we'd normally stick with established core styles and colours that are easier to come back to when more are needed. For merchandise, we can be a little more adventurous with the fit, fabric and finish.

Common questions
What is AS Colour best for?
We use AS Colour most often for merchandise, events, branded apparel and more casual uniforms. The amount of choice across fits, fabric weights, colours and finishes makes it particularly useful when those parts of the garment are important to the overall look.
Is AS Colour good for printing?
Yes. A lot of the cotton tees, hoodies and crews have smooth and consistent surfaces that work well with custom printing. The range of different weights and fits also gives us plenty of options when matching a garment to the artwork.
Can AS Colour be embroidered?
Yes. Polo shirts, business shirts, jackets, caps, hoodies and crews can all work well with embroidery. It comes down to the individual garment, the artwork and the look you're trying to achieve.
Which AS Colour tee should I use?
It depends on what you're making. The Staple is a good all-round starting point, but from there we can go lighter, heavier, more relaxed, oversized, faded or into a completely different fit. If you tell us what you're trying to achieve, we'd rather narrow it down to a few good options than make you compare twenty similar tees.
Is AS Colour good for merchandise?
Yes. The choice of fits, fabric weights, colours and finishes gives us plenty of room when putting together merchandise. It's especially useful when the garment colour, weight or fit is intended to be part of the overall design.
Is AS Colour good for uniforms?
Yes, particularly if you're after something more casual or contemporary. For ongoing uniform programs, we'd generally recommend sticking with established core styles and colours so additional garments are easier to order later.
What is the difference between combed and carded cotton?
Combed cotton has more of the shorter fibres removed before the yarn is spun, resulting in a smoother and more even fabric. Carded cotton keeps more of those fibres and generally has a little more texture. Neither is automatically better. The right one depends on the weight, feel and finished look you're after.
What GSM AS Colour shirt should I choose?
GSM tells you the weight of the fabric, but it doesn't tell you whether one garment is better than another. Lighter fabrics can make sense for everyday wear, events and warmer conditions. Heavier fabrics feel more substantial and can completely change the direction of a merchandise design. Fit, fibre and construction matter as well, so we wouldn't choose a garment on GSM alone.
Can I match an AS Colour garment to our brand colour?
AS Colour publishes Pantone references for selected colours, which can help narrow down the range. They're still only a reference. Fabric, dye and a backlit screen all represent colour differently, so if the match is important we'd recommend checking a physical sample before placing the full order.
Where are AS Colour garments made?
AS Colour works with garment and fabric suppliers across a number of countries and publishes information about its factories, auditing and sourcing policies. For organisations with procurement requirements, AS Colour also publishes information relating to programs and standards including amfori BSCI, Better Cotton and OEKO-TEX Standard 100, along with organic cotton used across parts of the range. Because supplier and compliance information can change, we don't reproduce all of that documentation here. If you're completing a tender or need sourcing information for a particular garment, ask us and we'll point you towards the current documentation.
Can't find the AS Colour product you're after?
We only show a curated part of the AS Colour range here. If you already have a particular product, colour or product code in mind, send it through and we'll check availability and whether it's suitable for what you're trying to do.
Need help choosing?
You don't need to work out the garment, fabric and decoration yourself. Tell us what you're making, how many you need and when you need it. We'll narrow the options down and work out what makes sense.
Tell us the date. We'll tell you how it's possible.
Most quotes come back the same business day. Give us quantity, branding and deadline, and we can usually map out a way to get there.
